Chesed

We are a group of volunteers and staff who make it our mission to ensure everyone in our community feels safe, loved and supported when they need it most.

See below for what to do if:

I need practical assistance (e.g. during illness or after giving birth)

We can help with day-to-day tasks, such as bringing you meals.

Please call, message or email the Chesed Line anytime.

I need to talk something through

Please call, message or email the Chesed Line anytime.

One of our volunteers will be happy to talk to you, or simply listen. We can also ask Student Rabbi Yael to reach out if that’s what you need.

Please note we’re not trained counsellors, so if you need specialist support, that will need to come from suitable professionals.

I’ve experienced a bereavement

Please call, email or message the Chesed Line at your earliest convenience.

We will get back to you as soon as humanly possible and will support you with logistics, funeral and shiva arrangements, and make sure the community is around you to support you while you mourn.

If you aren’t able to wait for a response from us, you should call the JJBS directly on 020 8989 5252. They have someone on duty 24/7 who can help with urgent enquiries.

If you’re struggling emotionally and need urgent support, Mind have a list of helplines you can call 24 hours a day.

I’m worried for myself or someone else in the community

We have a dedicated Safeguarding Team to help if someone may be at risk. Safeguarding means protecting people’s safety and wellbeing, and it’s a legal duty. We have safeguarding processes for both children and adults.

Please contact safeguarding@makorhayim.org if you are worried, for any reason, about:

  • your own safety or wellbeing
  • the safety or wellbeing of another person
  • the conduct of any member of staff or volunteer
I need help urgently

We can’t help in emergencies as we’re not trained or resourced for this.

  • If you’re struggling emotionally or with your mental heath there are 24/7 helplines available for advice and support. For a list of options, click here.
  • If you or someone else is in immediate danger, including if you think you might be a risk to yourself, always call 999 straight away.
